Groundbreaker privacy policy
Last updated October 9, 2026. This policy covers the Groundbreaker iPhone app and the Groundbreaker manager website.
The short version
- Groundbreaker is a business tool. Your company sets up your account, and the sites, visits and contacts you enter belong to your company's account.
- We use your data to run the app: your routes, your briefs, your visit record. We do not sell it, and we do not use it for advertising.
- We do not record your microphone, read your address book, track your location in the background, or run analytics or advertising tracking.
What we collect and where it goes
| Data | Why | Where it is stored | Who else receives it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Account: email, password (stored only as a secure hash), name, optional phone number, role, company | To sign you in and give you the right access | Our database (Supabase, United States) and your phone | Google Workspace sends sign-up and password-reset emails |
| Sites, visits, notes and orders you enter | To plan routes, write briefs and keep your visit record | Our database and your phone | Apple Maps receives addresses for directions and search, and stop locations to measure drive times between them (our server passes those to Apple without storing them). If you tap Navigate and choose Google Maps or Waze, that app receives the destination. |
| Contacts you add at a site | Your record of who you met | Our database and your phone | No one |
| Visit photos | Attached to the visit they belong to | Private storage in our database | No one. Spreadsheet exports contain links to photos that expire after 7 days by default. |
| Photos of business cards and route sheets | Read on your phone to fill in fields for you | Not stored | No one. Apple's on-device text recognition reads them; the photo is not saved or sent. |
| Location | To show where you are and to drop a pin, only while the app is open | Only the position of a pin you choose to save | No one. Never collected in the background. When you drop a pin, we check for your company's sites within 150 m of you; that position is not stored, only the time of the check, for one day. |
| Saved places: home, office or other spots you use to start or finish a route | To plan your route from where your day starts to where it ends | Your phone only | Apple Maps receives the location to measure drive times |
| Today's route: your stops in order, the first stop's time and the day's driving | So the morning brief can describe your day | Our database, readable only by you; deleted after 30 days | No one |
| Morning brief | A spoken summary of your day, built on our server from your route, sites, contacts and visits | The audio and its transcript, in our database | ElevenLabs receives the brief's text to produce the audio. That text can include contact names, company names and short excerpts from your visit notes. Anthropic receives public news headlines only, never your data. The US National Weather Service receives one map location for the forecast. |
| Texted pins | When you text a location to Groundbreaker to add a site | The site you add | Quo, our text-message provider, carries the message. Texts from numbers not on a Groundbreaker profile are dropped and not stored. |
What we do not collect
Microphone recordings, your iPhone address book, background location, analytics or usage tracking, advertising identifiers and push-notification tokens.
Who can see your data
People at your company with access to Groundbreaker see what their role allows. Managers and owners can see their team's sites, visits and reports and download them as spreadsheets. When anyone drops a pin, Groundbreaker tells them if one of their company's sites is within 150 m (its name, status and whose it is), so the same jobsite isn't added twice. Each company's data is kept separate from every other company's.
How long we keep it
- Morning briefs: the audio and its transcript are deleted automatically after 30 days.
- Today's route: deleted automatically after 30 days.
- Deletion records: deleted automatically after 1 year.
- Everything else (your account, sites, visits, contacts, photos and orders) is kept until you or your company delete it.
When something is deleted, it is removed from our database straight away. Copies in our hosting provider's backups, if any, are gone within 7 days.
Deleting your data
You can delete most things yourself in the app:
- Your account: Account → Delete my account. This deletes your sign-in, your profile, the visits you logged and their photos, and your morning briefs. If you are your company's only owner, the app asks you to email us instead, so we can close the company's account or hand it to a new owner.
- Sites and visit notes: swipe to delete. Reps can delete their own; owners and managers can delete any in their company. Deleting a site also deletes its visits, their photos and its contacts.
- Contacts: can be deleted in the app the same way, with the same rules.
Contacts and orders you add are your company's records, so they stay with your company after your account is deleted, with your name removed. Orders stay when their site is deleted.
Each deletion is recorded (the kind of item, its name, who deleted it and when) so owners and managers can see what was removed. For a deleted account, the record shows only the person's role.
For anything else, email jon@prattfeeley.com from the email address on your account. We will confirm and delete it within 30 days.
Security
Data travels between the app and our servers over encrypted connections. Our hosting providers encrypt stored data, visit photos are kept in private storage, and access is limited by company and role.
Children
Groundbreaker is a business tool for working adults. It is not meant for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy we update the date at the top. If a change affects how your data is used, we will tell you in the app or by email first.
